Weight Loss With a Healthy Diet

A healthy diet should include foods from all four major food groups. Following the food pyramid and eating the recommended servings of each food group for your age is one of the best ways to lose weight. This strategy for smart dieting requires arranging and you want to have a duplicate of the food pyramid before you as you plan your menu for the week. Starting out with a weekly menu plan is a good idea. After doing this for a few weeks, you'll soon know what you should be eating and how much of it.

Even though you shouldn't eat junk food if you're on a diet, many healthy eaters still enjoy their favorite snacks from time to time. As long as you don't make it a habit or overindulge, it's fine to treat yourself from time to time. Also, vegetarians and vegans have different ideas of what constitute "healthy foods," so if you don't eat meat, that doesn't mean you can't eat any animal proteins. Vegetarians may run the risk of not getting enough protein if they don't pay close attention to what they eat.

If you are a vegetarian, soy should be a part of your daily diet because it is similar to animal protein. Dry beans, lentils, and peas are all good sources of protein. Other grains and vegetables are also good sources of protein. Tofu and soy milk are excellent sources of calcium, and green leafy vegetables are an excellent source of iron.

These foods will help you feel full and complement your diet even if you are not a vegetarian. To be safe, every dieter should take a multivitamin and mineral supplement. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day helps flush out the calories you've burned and keeps your body working normally.
